CALIENT Optical Components Achieves ISO Certification
CALIENT Technologies Subsidiary Enforces Company-wide Commitment to Quality

San Jose, Calif., April 9, 2001 – CALIENT Optical Components, a subsidiary of photonic switch vendor, CALIENT Technologies, today announced its achievement of International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 registration. This registration is an important step toward CALIENT Technologies' company-wide program to achieve subsequent TL 9000 registration, and commitment to establishing highest quality production and documentation processes for its DiamondWave™ photonic switching systems.

"CALIENT Technologies is committed to exceeding industry requirements for the quality and reliability of its DiamondWave™ photonic switching systems," said Cynthia Broderick, CALIENT Technologies' director of quality assurance. "TL 9000 is fast becoming a standard requirement for telecommunications vendors, and will serve as the foundation of our quality management system."

"As an emerging leader in a highly competitive space, CALIENT considers such standards achievements to be a core requirement to building strong customer relationships and delivering highly reliable systems," said Randy Ziffer, CALIENT Networks' vice president of operations.

CALIENT Optical Components' ISO 9001 registration applies to the design, manufacture, installation and service of its MEMS (micro-electrical-mechanical systems), an integral part of CALIENT Technologies' DiamondWave™ photonic switching systems. In a related announcement, the CALIENT Technologies' spinoff still bearing the name Kionix has also achieved ISO 9001 certification, but will focus its development efforts on non-optical MEMS product lines for non-telecommunications industry sectors.
